How Does NIR Laser Photo-rejuvenation work?

Near-Infrared (NIR) light therapy works beneath the surface of your skin to restore, repair, and rejuvenate at a cellular level.

Using wavelengths between 780nm – 850nm, NIR light penetrates deep into the epidermal and dermal layers. This energy gently warms the skin to 40–50°C, creating a safe, controlled thermal response that stimulates your body’s natural healing processes.

This gentle heat creates controlled micro-stimulation within the skin, triggering regeneration and repair. As your skin responds, it begins to rebuild stronger, healthier, and more youthful tissue from within.

Who can have photo-rejuvenation?

You cannot receive Photo-rejuvenation facials if you:

  • Have Any open skin lessions / broken skin

  • Have sunburnt skin or have sensitivity to heat.

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

  • On any medications causing photosensitivity:

    -  Acne medications - Roaccutane, Isotretinoins (must have finished for at least 12months)
    - Anti-biotics – doxycycline, ciprofloxacin and co-trimoxazole (must wait 2 weeks from finishing course)
    - NSAIDS Pain relief – Ibuprofen and naproxen (24-48 hours after last dose)
    - Diuretics and blood pressure medications – Hydrochlorothiazide, amiodarone and enalapril.
    - Anti-depressants and antipsychotics – tricylics and amitriptyline, chlorpromazine.

How many treatments should I have?

A minimum of 3 -6 treatments is usually recommended to achieve best results.  As the results rely on kick-starting the body’s own collagen production, it can take 4-8 weeks before you start to fully see the benefits. Optimal results are best noticed 3-6 months after final treatment.

This plan may need to be reviewed over time. We recommend your treatments are spaced between 4-6 weeks which your therapist will advise, and can be intermittently used in conjunction with other treatments. Maintenance treatments are highly recommended following your treatment plan.

To achieve even better results we recommend using the cosmedical skincare prescribed by your skin therapist at home daily during your treatment programme.

How to prepare for a Photo-rejuvenation Facial?

To ensure a safe and successful session, you should avoid the following in the days leading up to your appointment:

  • Retinoids: Stop using all retinol/Retin-A creams and harsh exfoliants (AHAs/BHAs) for 1 to 2 weeks prior.

  • Sun Exposure: Avoid direct, unprotected sun exposure and fake tanning for at least 2 weeks before your appointment.

  • Other Treatments: Do not get chemical peels, waxing, or other aggressive skin treatments in the two weeks leading up to your NIR photo-rejuvenation facial.

What should I do after a Photo-rejuvenation facial?

Proper aftercare for a NIR (Near Infrared) and photo-rejuvenation facial maximizes results and prevents complications. The most critical steps are avoiding excessive heat, protecting your skin from the sun, and using extremely gentle skincare products while the skin heals

  • Moisturize Heavily: Keep your skin hydrated by applying a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer multiple times a day to combat dryness and flaking.

  • Protect from the Sun: Sun avoidance is essential. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ physical sunscreen daily and wear a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors.

  • Keep It Cool:  If experiencing any residual heat, use a cold compress in 10-15 minute increments during the first 24 hours to soothe any lingering redness or swelling. Always use lukewarm water when washing your face.

What to Avoid

  • Intense Heat: Skip strenuous workouts, saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers for at least 24 to 48 hours. Overheating the skin can increase inflammation.

  • Harsh Skincare Products: Do not use any retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, Vitamin C, or physical exfoliants for 5 to 7 days.

  • Picking at Dark Spots: Pigmentation spots and treated lesions will temporarily darken and crust over (a process called 'peppering') before flaking off in about 7 to 14 days. Do not pick or scratch these spots; let them shed naturally to avoid scarring.

  • Makeup: Avoid applying makeup for the first 24 hours to allow the skin to breathe. After 24 hours, apply only light, non-comedogenic makeup if necessary
